The Jokulsarlon area, located on Iceland’s South Coast, is one of the country’s most stunning and unique natural wonders. This area is defined by the stunning Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, which is filled with shimmering icebergs that have calved off the nearby Vatnajokull glacier.
As we approach the lagoon, you’ll be struck by the otherworldly beauty of the surrounding landscapes, which are dominated by the towering Vatnajokull glacier and the rugged mountains and black sand beaches that flank the lagoon.
Once we arrive at the lagoon, you’ll have the opportunity to explore its wonders up close. You can take a boat tour to get up close and personal with the icebergs, marveling at their intricate shapes and hues of blue, white, and gray. You’ll learn about the unique ecosystem that thrives in and around the lagoon, including seals, seabirds, and other wildlife.
You can also explore the area on foot, wandering along the black sand beaches that flank the lagoon and taking in the stunning views of the icebergs and the surrounding mountains. You may even spot a seal or two lounging on the ice floes.
